(Program concluded November 18, 2025)
We are proud to share the success and meaningful impact of our Food Insecurity Program, made possible through a $10,000 Food Insecurity Mini Grant. This program was designed to provide timely, nutritious food support to individuals and families facing food insecurity in our community. Using a Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) screening tool, healthcare providers identified patients experiencing food insecurity and referred them to the program. Through our partnership with Fit Fuel Kitchen, enrolled participants received four nutritious, ready-to-eat meals per week, ensuring consistent access to healthy food during a particularly challenging period.
In addition to meal support, the program expanded into community education and engagement. During our Women’s Wellness Event, we collaborated with the Tuolumne County Public Health Department to offer a live cooking demonstration. Attendees had the opportunity to sample a healthy recipe and take home a full bag of ingredients—provided by Tuolumne Me-Wuk Indian Health Center—so they could recreate the meal at home.
We also partnered with Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) to thoughtfully use remaining grant funds to purchase groceries for tribal families who were impacted by the temporary suspension of SNAP benefits, further extending the reach of the grant to those facing immediate food insecurity.
What resonated most with our team were the powerful responses from program participants. Clients consistently shared how helpful the meals were for their households. One participant noted the high quality of the food, especially the fresh vegetables, and expressed how much they loved the program and hoped it would continue in the future. Others shared that the meals provided relief during times of illness, helping families manage evening meals when cooking was not possible.
Families with children also highlighted the program’s impact, sharing that even their young children enjoyed the meals and looked forward to their favorites each week. Several participants described the program as “very helpful,” “awesome,” and “great,” and many expressed hope that the program could be offered again. Some participants even offered to write letters of support to help sustain the program in the future.
We are deeply grateful to Fit Fuel Kitchen for their partnership and commitment to providing high-quality, nourishing meals, as well as to all collaborating partners who helped make this program possible. Most importantly, we thank the community members who participated and shared their feedback. Their voices reinforce the importance of continued investment in food security efforts and community-driven solutions.
